Why does startup’s progress bar stall?

This could be a hardware problem, so first run Diagnostics or Hardware Test. If that’s clear, run Disk Utility’s First Aid. After those, suspect an old or conflicting extension, and check those listed in System Information’s Software section. Click on the top of the “Last Modified” column to sort the list by date.
