DJI makes some very advanced tech for pro film makers but its latest offering is much more affordable. The Osmo 2 is a smartphone gimbal — a device that allows a camera to rotate smoothly.

The handle of the device contains its battery, which lasts 15 hours and is charged over micro USB. There’s a secondary USB port so you can charge your phone.

Osmo Mobile 2 works in basic mode with any camera app, but is best when using the DJI GO app. Once the devices are linked via Bluetooth, the phone leaps to face you. Move the whole thing around and it maintains smooth, cinematic sweeps, continually adjusting to keep everything balanced.

There are several modes — upright, underslung, flashlight, or portrait, into which the unit switches based on how you choose to position it.

There’s a four-way joystick on the handle for precise control and a zoom for wider or tighter framing. Inside the GO app there’s a lot of options that include video quality and even manual controls for ISO and white balance. Captured media can be exported to various sites as well as to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, and more.

The Osmo 2 Mobile is great for self-broadcasting. It’s also a serious filmmaking tool and will definitely give your iPhone productions a more professional feel.

the bottom line. An affordable way to get amazing cinematic shots from your iPhone’s camera.

The Osmo Mobile 2’s internal motors keep the camera balanced in different tracking modes.
