Unlox is the name for the new version of MacID (as Apple objected to the name). The concept remains the same and focuses on remotely locking and unlocking your Mac using your iPhone or Watch.

There are multiple options available, all of which work over Bluetooth LE. The simplest is the facility to lock or unlock your Mac’s screen by tapping the iPhone or Watch app. You can use Touch ID or Face ID on a phone or even a special pattern tapped on your Mac’s trackpad to do this. The Watch remains authorized as long as it’s on your wrist, so its app just needs a tap. On iPhone or Apple Watch, notifications let you know when locking activity is taking place. It’s worth noting that MacOS 10.13 allows unlocking of your Mac using Watch, though it’s more simplistic.

Unlocking is fast and smooth. Interestingly, the Mac app can auto lock or auto unlock your Mac when you move away or back toward it by a specific distance. This means you’ll never forget to lock your screen when you leave the Mac.
