Now this is a pretty novel use of the Apple Watch’s built-in haptics — rather than have a loud metronome ticktocking away as you play music, this app keeps time using a gentle tap on the wrist. Pulse – Haptic Metronome Watch is minimalist and easy to use; best of all, the tempo can be adjusted to any speed you’d like by simply turning the digital crown.

It’s a great idea for any musician, although the haptic vibration is just a little on the soft side for our liking. The iOS app offers even more, including custom colors and click sounds (which sadly don’t apply on watchOS), and a neat feature called PulseSync, which allows other players to jam along to the same time via Bluetooth.

You won’t find much to complain with this free app but for best results, keep your Watch screen awake (Settings > Wake Screen) while in use.

the bottom line. An all-around nifty watchOS app for any musician that could use a little more haptic feedback.
