AI takes on photo editing

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication,” goes the saying, so how about this: a photo editor which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to make your photos look their best.

The interface is simple — a small window onto which you drop one or more images. After a few moments (Photolemur carries on processing in the background if you import a batch) you’re presented with an almost non-negotiable result — you can drag a vertical slider across your image to preview your shot before and after, while a slider lets you vary the strength of the changes.

On fundamentally sound RAW files, Photolemur showed a light touch. Slightly brighter highlights, gently increased saturation and a touch more clarity all produced nice-looking, ready-to-print images. Even on ropier images, there’s a marked improvement. Purists will prefer apps with more fine-grained control, of course, but if you don’t mind technology taking the wheel, Photolemur’s results are easily up to snuff.

the bottom line. Photolemur will definitely improve your images.
