Power up your Mac’s trackpad

Enhance your trackpad with BetterTouchTool

Mac|Life - - CONTENTS - Craig Grannell

Your trackpad recognizes far more gestures than Apple provides access to in System Preferences’ Trackpad pane. But BetterTouchTool can unleash the full power of the Multi-Touch surface.

The app enables you to choose from additional gestures and assign actions to them. Treat the examples we give here as a starting point and experiment with ideas of your own. (In Manage Presets, export a backup of your BetterTouchTool settings, then reimport them later — a great way to reuse them on a second Mac.)

BetterTouchTool also offers more nuanced general trackpad controls. In the app’s toolbar, click the Advanced button and then Trackpad. You’ll see a range of options for fine-tuning how your trackpad works. If things go a bit weird, you can click Reset All Settings.

You can install a free 45-day trial of it from folivora.ai — after that, a two-year license costs $6.50; a lifetime one is $20. Open the app, click the icon it adds to the menu bar, choose Preferences, then click on the Trackpads tab below the toolbar. Let’s get started!
