Al­most since the day it launched, com­men­ta­tors have been snip­ing at iPhone X, say­ing its sales have been dis­ap­point­ing. Far from it: In Ap­ple’s quar­terly earn­ings state­ment, Ap­ple CEO Tim Cook said “iPhone X sur­passed our ex­pec­ta­tions and has been our top-sell­ing iPhone ev­ery week since it shipped in Novem­ber.” A study by Coun­ter­point Re­search (cited by Ap­pleIn­sider) says iPhone X alone ac­counted for 35% of the prof­its in the global smart­phone mar­ket in the De­cem­ber quar­ter of 2017, de­spite ship­ping only in Novem­ber. In to­tal, Ap­ple had eight out of the top ten smart­phones in terms of profit share, grab­bing 86% of global smart­phone prof­its.
