Protect your purchase

Your consumer rights and insurance options

Apple provides its own insurance policy in the form of AppleCare. It covers your Mac for one year of hardware repair from Apple or from an authorized technician, and up to 90 days of unlimited complimentary software support and technical assistance by phone.

To enhance the level of support over and above what you receive with AppleCare, you can purchase AppleCare+, which increases your coverage to three years and adds up to two incidents of accidental damage (which you don’t get with the standard policy). You also get 24/7 priority access to phone or chat support, so you can solve any problems quickly. AppleCare+ for Mac costs between $99 and $379 (based on the model you choose), and can be bought within 60 days of purchase.

When you buy a Mac through Apple, you have up to 14 days from date of purchase to return a product for any reason (provided you didn’t cause a problem), so it’s best to have the extra protection afforded by AppleCare+.

If you’re the sort of person who spills their coffee over their Mac, get AppleCare+.
