Should I access my netwo rk drive using SMB or CIFS?

Mac|Life - - ASK -

CIFS is an open-source implementation of the SMB1 protocol. Opting to use CIFS will deliver the slowest but likely most compatible implementation of SMB. That can be useful if faster versions of SMB, such as SMB2 or SMB3, are causing problems. It shouldn’t be your first choice, however.
