Tidy up your files on macOS

Use your Mac’s built–in tools to manage local storage

-

Recent versions of macOS have got better at providing tools to help you rapidly reclaim space. Perhaps this is in response to storage capacities no longer increasing in size every year. However, even if you’re blessed with a multi–terabyte drive, it’s still smart to keep things reasonably tidy, and offload huge files that are no longer useful.

One thing we should note: before you start on a massive tidy–up of your Mac, do make sure that everything of importance is backed up. If you use Time Machine or a third–party backup/ cloning app, ensure you run it before you do anything else; preferably, make a backup to a drive you won’t need to use at all for a while, until you’re totally sure that everything on your Mac is as it should be and that you’ve not got rid of any important files by accident.
