the difference between Siri Shortcuts and the Shortcuts app

-

There are big upgrades to Siri and the ability to get things done in iOS 12. After using the new system for a while, new ways to interact with your apps will appear on the Lock screen and in Spotlight search in the form of Siri Shortcuts. These help you get things done with less fuss as you go about your day, enabling you to repeat earlier actions with just one tap.

The suggestions you’re given in those places are based on things your device recognizes you do often. Those that are shown may vary by the time of day and your location. Tapping one might take you to a place deep within an app you use often, or do a complete task — say, order a coffee — without opening an app.

Tapping isn’t the only way to trigger a shortcut. For any that you find very useful, you can assign your own spoken command to run them at any time you want, not just when they appear on the screen. Look to the right to find out how.

Siri Shortcuts are handy, but they are geared towards accomplishing tasks that involve a single action. You can take things to the next level by downloading Apple’s Shortcuts app (Free, bit.ly/

apshc), in which you can chain together multiple actions to achieve more complex results involving multiple apps.
