Quickly locate and delete duplicate photos

- Clif Joseph

Free (with IAPs) From Windy Software, windysoftware.net Made for iPhone, iPad Needs iOS 12.0 or later

It’s easy to get carried away with your iPhone and shoot dozens of pics, but while Apple’s Photos app is good for organizing photos that you want to keep, it’s less helpful when you need to weed out all those unwanted duplicates. Eric Welander’s BestPhotos can come in handy here and help you to delete duplicates, making it so you just keep the best versions of each photo.

The free version of the app provides one central feature, as it can scan your Photos library and detect photos that are either duplicates or very similar. It allows you to focus on specific groups of photos, such as those from today, the last week, or month. You can also scan individual albums, years, or specific formats, such as panoramas or portrait photos.

Once that’s done, the app will display all the photos that it thinks are duplicates. You can allow the app to automatically delete all the duplicates for you, or browse through the list and select individual photos that you want to delete. The free version of the app is certainly worth downloading to see if it can reduce the clutter in your Photos library and maybe even save some previous storage space on your iPhone. There’s also a ‘Best’ version of the app that costs $2.99 and unlocks a useful side–by–side comparison preview, as well as more powerful search tools, and even a ‘stats’ view that provides information about the different shots you take.

the bottom line. A useful time (and space) saving app for any trigger– happy photographer.
