Time Out

Take a break from your mac

- Cliff Joseph

Free From Dejal, dejal.com Needs OS X 10.10 or later Apple made quite a fuss about the Screen Time features in iOS 12, but it didn’t introduce similar capabilties in macOS Mojave — even though many of us spend far more time staring at a computer screen when we’re at work or studying every day.

David Sinclair’s Time Out is a free app for the Mac that can help here, allowing you to program breaks into your daily routine in order to give your mind and body a rest every now and then.

There are two types of break in Time Out, which both begin by slowly superimposing the Time Out logo over your screen. The app recommends a ‘normal’ break that lasts for 10 minutes once every hour, which will give you the time to get away from the screen altogether. You can also program ‘micro’ breaks, which may only last for a few seconds, but take place more often. The app can even perform specific actions at the start of a break, such as displaying a text notification on the screen or playing some soothing music.

the bottom line. A useful app for anyone that uses a computer all day long at work, and is looking for the time to relax.
