Organizing with Planny

The simple way to stay on top of everyday tasks

- Carrie Marshall

There are plenty of organizer and to–do apps in the App Store, but Planny 2 is slightly different. In addition to date and time deadlines, it has room for reminders that are more vague, such as the things we know we ought to do but often don’t: exercising, perhaps, or practicing a musical instrument, or just remembering to clean the oven. If you add such things into its Routines section, either on particular days of the week or a specific day each month, they’ll pop up in your daily list of recommended tasks. If you don’t want to do them, you can move them to a different day or just ignore them altogether.

You can also set deadlines for entire projects. For example, you might want to arrange all the things for a birthday party in advance of a particular date. The app will then suggest doing the things on that list in the run–up to the due date. That makes Planny 2 a great app for managing your normal life as well as work or school. It’s worth noting that Planny is a task manager, not a calendar app: its date features are fairly basic, so if you’re fond of creating events that recur on the third Thursday of every month you’ll be better off with something like Fantastical 2. And some of its best features — location– based reminders, tags and iCloud Sync — require Planny Pro, a $6.99 in–app purchase. That unlocks the Pro version for all your devices.
