TP–Link HS 110

Smart, affordable, with an excellent app

-

Let's get the bad news out of the way first: we were disappointed by the Eve Energy. It’s by far the best energy monitor on test here, at least in terms of the range of info on offer — but it’s pricey, and its limitations as a HomeKit–only device do let it down. We love HomeKit, but not everybody does, and it’s only going to sit happily in a very specific smart setup. It might be worth looking at the Belkin WeMo Insight (not tested here) if you’re angling for a HomeKit–compatible monitor that also plays nicely with other options.

Picking a winner from the remaining pair wasn’t easy. Eufy’s plug is cheaper than some similar devices with fewer features, and it’s well designed to the point that we’re wondering what its rivals do with that extra space. But TP–Link’s plug offers live power–draw monitoring, and we’d pick that as a critical feature for this kind of hardware — if you’re trying to sniff out your most inefficient equipment, you don’t want to have to wait a day and perform differential equations at the end of it to get the data you need.

?? ?? Its ability to monitor energy use in real time makes the HS110 the winner here.
