How to Manage your contacts
Get started with groups
A great way to organize your contacts is by collecting them together in groups. Click + thenNew Group and give it a name. Now click + thenNew Contact to add a person, or drag one from All Contacts onto a new group.
Mail integration
With numerous people added to your group, you can send an email to them all. In a new message in Mail, type the group’s name in the To field (or Bcc to hide recipients from one another). Pick the group from the suggestions.
Update your addresses
If you realize a contact’s email address is wrong, you can change it in Mail. Add the person to the To field, then click the arrow next to their name. Choose Edit Address and change it as necessary.
Set profile pictures
A profile picture makes it quicker to tell contacts apart. Select a card in Contacts, then click Edit. A large + will appear under ‘Change profile picture’. Click that and add a picture of your contact from a file on your Mac.
Adjust card templates
The template used when you create a new card can be altered to show only relevant info. Go to Contacts > Preferences > Template, then add or remove fields to suit your needs. This won’t affect existing contacts’ cards.
Detect contact info
Siri can detect and add contact info for you if it finds it in another app (like, say, Mail). Such info will be added in gray to the relevant card(s); click the down arrow then Ignore to remove it, or Save to add it to the card.
Smart Groups
Smart Groups are useful for finding and grouping contacts automatically. Choose File > New Smart Group, then specify your desired criteria. Contacts that match will appear in the group. It’s dynamic, and so updates over time.
Find duplicates
Over time, you may end up with duplicate info or contacts. To find them, choose Card > Look for Duplicates. Contacts will then offer to consolidate the duplicated data; click Merge and it’ll get to work.
