Add advanced video effects

Enhance your LumaFusion projects with animated effects and filters

-

One way to add eye–catching variety to videos is to have several clips playing on screen simultaneously. This is a great way to create title or montage sequences.

The excellent video–editing app LumaFusion (see the previous four issues for more guides) has a Frame & Fit Editor that boasts a range of picture–in–picture (PiP) presets that instantly place a clip in different parts of the screen. You can then manually modify the size and position of the PiP clip by dragging control handles. As a bonus, you can add “keyframes” to animate the clip, so that it starts off small and then zooms up to fill the frame. You can add as many keyframes to a PiP clip as you like, and even animate it so that it rotates as it enlarges.

Another way to enhance your footage is to add stylized effects to it. LumaFusion boasts a comprehensive collection of picture–changing presets to style, blur, and distort your clips in creative ways. We’ll show you how to use the Style panel to add a comic–book look to a clip, and also use its Blur panel to add a dynamic zoom–blur effect. You’ll also learn how to keyframe these effects so that the zoom blur appears over a period of time.

LumaFusion lets you combine multiple effects as layers, and you can even reorder the layer stack to create new looks. Once you’ve created a custom–look using multiple effects, you can copy and paste the look to other clips in a few taps.

We’ll also show you how to flip a clip horizontally so that the subject moves in the same direction as it did in the preceding clip. This flip effect helps you maintain narrative continuity. You can then share your stylized and key-frameanimated sequence to a variety of social media platforms, or storage destinations such as your iCloud Drive. GeorgeCairns
