Things to consider…

What you need to know before getting started

-

ONE–OFF PRICE OR SUBSCRIPTION?

The apps here all have some kind of fee attached. In some cases that’s a one–off cost, in others its a subscription fee. To add a complication, Calendars 5 is the paid–for version of Calendars, which can also be upgraded by subscription.

WATCH APP

If you have an Apple Watch, you’ll want to ensure that whichever calendar app you choose has an accompanying Watch app. The results table (page 65) lists those in this round–up that do.

AGENDA VIEW

The Agenda view in Timepage is stunning and easy to use, but other apps have a similar view; the one in Informant, for example, is also very useful. It allows you to step out of the traditional calendar view and see a clear itinerary of what’s just ahead.

IPAD OR MAC COMPANION APPS

You may also want to use the iPad or Mac version of your favorite calendar app. All the apps here have an iPad version, but some charge an additional fee for it. Again, check out the results table at the end of the test to see which offer Mac or iPad versions.

HOW DOES IT SYNC?

Most of the apps here pull data from the iOS Calendar app, but BusyCal needs you to sign in to iCloud and generate an app–specific password, as well as sign in to other accounts like Google.
