Corsair TBT100 Thunderbolt 3 Dock

A stylish, diminutive dock for power and connectivity

-

$259.99 From Corsair, corsair.com Features 2x HDMI, 2x USB–A, 2x USB–C, Thunderbolt 3, Gigabit Ethernet, 85W charging

The Corsair TBT100 is a multi–port dock that can also supply up to 85W of power to your laptop as well as up to 15W to its USB–C ports and 7.5W to its USB–A ports. It manages this thanks to the inclusion of a hefty 100W power supply unit which plugs into the rear panel, and can live a little way apart from the dock, reducing clutter.

The dock itself is well–built and low– profile, with slip–proof rubber feet on the underside. The front edge features a power button, an SDXC memory card reader, a USB–C port and a combo headphone and mic jack, all of which are ports to which you usually need easy access. A USB–A on the front for older thumb drives is eschewed in favour of the newer USB–C format.

The Thunderbolt port on the rear panel carries both data and power to your Mac, and there’s a high–speed cable included in the

box as well as US– and UK-compatible wall plugs. You get two HDMI 2 out ports that can drive dual displays at up to 4K at 60Hz, and a Gigabit Ethernet port for fast networking. A second USB–C port and dual USB–A sockets round out the ins and outs, plus there’s a Kensington lock port for security.

The TBT100 provides a good selection of expansion ports for a range of users and has the added benefit of powering your laptop and USB devices as it does so. There may be users who’d have preferred three USB–A ports to two, and the on–body markings were bafflingly hard to make out on our review model, but overall this is a very solid way to incorporate a range of peripherals into your Mac setup with minimal fuss.

THE BOTTOM LINE. A solid, single–cable way to power your laptop while adding a good selection of extra ports. HOLLIN JONES
