So long, Samsung

-

Your March magazine lists the Samsung SmartThings hub as one of three “hot hubs” but this device doesn’t exist for purchase. How could such a huge error occur? These hubs haven’t been available on the market for months, judging from the posts I’m seeing. Perhaps you could make another recommendation for a Z–wave compatible hub. JEFFREY

Unfortunately while the info was correct at time of writing, it now appears that Samsung has pulled the SmartThings hub from the market. There are rumors it's a production issue — but Samsung has started licensing the tech out to other companies like Aeotec (bit.ly/ml179atec) so it may be that the company is withdrawing from the hardware side of things and passing it on to third parties. Keep an eye out for the Aeotec hub, a suspiciously v3–Hub– esque device which we believe has been certified for the US market. Samsung is still making new partnerships, such as a new agreement with Nest (bit.ly/ml179sst) so we wouldn't imagine SmartThings is going anywhere.
