> Cure the stuttering keyboard

When typing on my Apple Bluetooth keyboard, some letters are slow to appear and others are repeated. This happens at random, and connecting the keyboard to a USB port fixes the problem. How can I stop this annoying behavior?

This is a long–standing problem which has troubled Apple’s Bluetooth keyboards since at least macOS Sierra. In older versions of macOS, it’s accompanied by an even more annoying problem in which the keyboard spontaneously disconnects then reconnects every so often; thankfully the issue has almost completely stopped since the Mojave release of macOS.

One important change you can make which should improve this to the point where stuttering is infrequent and far less obtrusive is to disable lower frequency Wi–Fi options, particularly on all wireless routers and any extenders you might be running. This is because the lower of the two standard frequency bands used by Wi–Fi devices is 2.4GHz, which overlaps with those used for Bluetooth, and often causes interference in which Bluetooth devices suffer the more. Running Wi–Fi using only 5GHz not only minimizes this interference, but it supports faster speeds too. When you’ve done that, you may get further benefits from carefully tuning the repeat and delay settings in the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard pane. Upgrading macOS to Big Sur also further reduces these issues.

?? ?? As well as tuning settings in the Keyboard pane, turn off 2.4GHz Wi–Fi stations which interfere with Bluetooth devices like wireless keyboards.
