Set up a budget

Launch Buddy and tap Budget (bottom of the screen). Tap Get Started. To rename the budget, tap the pencil. To change the starting date, tap Starting On, and to add a partner, tap Add Member and choose how to invite them.

Add your income

Scroll to the Income section, tap the box next to Salary and type in an amount. If you earn other income regularly, tap “Add new category,” type an amount, tap Category and choose one. Set an end date if one applies.

Add regular expenses

Scroll through the list of expenses and add amounts to the categories, in the same way you added income. If you have savings, you can add those here. If you have expenses that don’t have a category, add one for them.

Delete categories

If there are regular expense categories you won’t use like, say, gym membership, you can delete those. As you scroll, tap the pencil icon at the top–right of the screen and tap the “–” next to the categories you want to delete.

Add irregular expenditure

Once you’ve saved income and expenses, tap the orange “+” on the main screen. Type in an expense value, then tap category to allocate it. Add notes if you like, or tap Today to change the date. Tap Save to return to the main screen.

Edit your profile

Tap Profile and then tap the circle at the top to choose an image. Tap the cog at the top–left and type in your name. You can change currency here too, if necessary. Tap “X” to exit and return to the Profile screen.

Set up reminders

Tap Tools at the bottom of the screen, then tap Reminders. Turn on Daily Reminder and/or Monthly Bills. Confirm you want to allow Buddy to send Reminders. For Monthly bills, choose a day from the menu and press the √.

Settle up with partners

Tap Overview, then Split and choose a month. You’ll see a list of who has paid for what and the total paid by each member of the group. Tap Settle up to find out who owes who and how much they owe.
