Your first new backup

-

> YOU’VE SUCCESSFULLY MOVED in! Now what? The first thing you should do when you’ve got your new Mac just–so is to make a complete backup of everything that’s on it, ideally in a different place or on a different device to the clone or backup you used to migrate to it.

If you’re using Time Machine, you can import the previous backups from your old Mac and just update them each time, but with a new Mac we think it’s best to start a brand new backup from scratch. That means the first one will take a while to complete, but it won’t be full of things left over from your previous Mac.

There’s no right or wrong app for making a backup — some people like Time Machine, others SuperDuper!, others prefer cloud services such as CrashPlan. If you can spare the time, try different options to see which one fits you best. But whatever you do, make sure that you set it up to perfrom regular backups. Backups are like insurance policies: you hope that you will never need to use them but if you do you’ll be very glad they’re there.

?? ?? Go with whatever backup app you prefer, whether it’s Time Machine or SuperDuper! Just make sure you backup regularly.
