HOW TO Do more with Messages

-

Pin a conversation

Pinning a conversation displays that particular conversation at the top of the list of messages. Navigate to the conversation you want to pin in the list, Ctrl–click on it and choose Pin. You can unpin it in the same way.

Reply inline

Ctrl–click on the conversation you want to reply to and choose “Reply…”. Your reply can be seen beneath the message, rather than as a new one. You can also Tapback a message with a quick reaction by Ctrl–clicking on it.

Set a group photo

Find the group in the messages list and select it. Click on the “i” at the top–right of the main window and choose “Change group name and photo.” Click the photo icon, scroll through the images from your Library, and choose one.

Add Effects to a message

Type your message in the text box. Before pressing Send, click the “A” and choose Message Effects. Select the effect you want, here we’ve gone for floating balloons, and press Return to send the message with the effect.

Add a GIF

In the message window, click the “A” next to the text box. Choose “#images.” Scroll through the list of GIFs to find one or start typing in the search bar to filter them according to your search criteria.

Create a Memoji

In any message, click the “A” next to the text box. Choose Memoji Stickers. Click on the three dots “…” (top–left) and select New Memoji. Now, go through the options and create your Memoji. Click Done when you’re finished.

Mention notifications

Click on the Messages menu and choose Preferences > General. Select the box “Notify me when my name is mentioned.” Navigate to the group message, then Ctrl–click on it and choose Hide Alerts.

Search Messages

In the messages list, start typing in the search bar. Click Show More to see more results. To browse photos or documents without search, click Show More next to Photos or Documents without typing a search query.
