Chipolo ONE Spot

-

$28 (1 pack), $90 (4 pack) From chipolo.net

Features IPX5 water resistant, replaceable battery, 120dB

DESIGN

Unlike the AirTag, the Chipolo ONE Spot features a simple plastic body that you shouldn’t worry about scratching when it comes in contact with your keys. Bonus points: it also has a keyring hole so you can attach it straight onto a keyring without having to purchase a third–party case.

FEATURES

The Chipolo ONE Spot looks more rugged than the AirTag, but only has an IPX5 rating, which means it’s only water resistant, albeit it can withstand a sustained low–pressure water jet spray, if that matters. Like the AirTag, it features a replaceable CR2032, with up to a year’s battery life.

CONNECTIVITY

As with the AirTag, the Chipolo ONE Spot uses Bluetooth to find the location of the device in relation to the proximity of iPhones nearby. Without the U1 chip, it doesn’t benefit from Find My’s Precision Tracking mode, however, so it’s harder to find when nearby.

MELODY

By contrast, the Chipolo ONE Spot’s melody is a bit more striking, reminiscent of an 80s sound effect key chain. It’s certainly easy to find — about on a par with the AirTag when it comes to being detected audibly at a distance.
