XGIMI Horizon Pro 4K Projector

A capable 4K projector — but don’t count on HD

-

$1,699 From us.xgimi.com Features 3840 x 2160 (4K), 30–300 inch image, 2200 ANSI Lumens, HDMI x 2, USB 2.0 x 2, Optical, Wi–Fi, Bluetooth

XGIMI’s flagship 4K HDR projector offers an impressive 2,200 lumens brightness, excellent 4K recreation and a stunningly– designed compact case, it’s a joy both to handle and to watch its images in action, albeit with a handful of exceptions.

The Horizon Pro excels with native 4K content, and works best as a key part of your home theater system, ideally with 4K Blu–rays (or high quality streams). Its image quality is close to what you’d see on a quality flatscreen, with exceptional brightness control — an area that many projectors fall short in. The 30–300 inch projection size is flexible, and the short throw ratio means it only needs to be a few feet from a wall for a decent image.

The built–in Harman Kardon stereo audio is more than capable for a projector, while the sleek metal remote and fetching

black casing of the beamer itself are more premium than the price would suggest.

There are a decent number of ports on the rear, including two HDMI 2.0 ports for plugging in your Apple TV or a console.

In everyday use, SD and HD upscaling isn’t as impressive, with on/off grain, image artefacts, and color distortion creeping in when you’re not feeding the Horizon Pro quality sources. If you plan on watching Full HD content mostly, the cheaper Horizon model is a better bet.

The Android TV platform is easy to use, but it does prioritize Google services, and Netflix and Disney Plus isn’t supported. AirPlay streaming isn’t available, either. We’d stick to a streaming box, anyway.

THE BOTTOM LINE. A stellar 4K projector at the price, with a slight hiccup around upscaling. HENRY ST LEGER
