TINKERTOOL

-

It’s useful to understand how to use Terminal. But if you’re concerned you’ll get things wrong — or want a more efficient way to make changes — install TinkerTool (free, bresink.com). This reliable utility enables you to quickly make changes to Finder, the Dock, Launchpad, Dark Mode, Help Viewer, and more (including most adjustments mentioned elsewhere on this page) — all by selecting menu items, clicking checkboxes, and clicking a relaunch button. The Reset tab provides you with a two–tier safety net. At any point, you can revert your settings to their pre–TinkerTool state. Or if you prefer, you can reset them to their defaults, like they’d appear in a box–fresh Mac.
