6 If you want a free VPN for semi–regular use, it’s hard to look beyond Windscribe and its generous 10GB monthly allowance. You’re limited to a small selection of its total number of servers in 10 countries, but it’s great for occasional use.

The Pro version opens this up to 60 countries and 110 distinct cities, and there’s no restrictions on how many devices you connect with too. You also have a choice of protocols: IKEv2 (the default), plus OpenVPN, and WireGuard. Performance– wise it doesn’t pull up any trees, comparable with TunnelBear and PIA.

The user interface is a little fussy but is self– contained within a single window. Windscribe proved less reliable connecting to overseas streaming services, with many spotting and blocking the VPN. On the upside, despite being within the “5 Eyes” jurisdiction, Windscribe’s privacy policy makes it clear it keeps no personally identifiable information in its logs.
