CHILD SAFETY PROTECTION

-

Apple has postponed introducing three intended changes to detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Aimed to enhance parental protection to warn parents of sensitive content in a child’s Messages, and to intervene when Siri and Search are used for CSAM, the company has decided to improve these and reach better consensus before adding them in “months”. Even then, they’ll only apply in the USA. Of these changes, the most likely to benefit users in other countries, should Apple extend its coverage, are those intended to protect children from sending or receiving sexually explicit images using Messages, and from searches for CSAM content online. There should be plenty of advance notice should Apple want to extend these to other countries, and many local legal issues to deal with too.
