PRIVACY AND PASSWORDS

Macs with built–in cameras have long shown an indicator light when the camera is active. Monterey adds a software indicator to the Control Center for a similar warning when the built–in microphone is in use.

There’s one completely new pane, for Passwords. This centralizes saved passwords for apps and websites, and can import and export passwords from other password managers such as 1Password. It’s also supported on Windows by an extension for Edge and a new iCloud passwords app for Windows. Although not a full password manager, you can set up verification codes which autofill to complete two–factor authentication (2FA). If you don’t already use a password manager, these should bring real benefits, particularly with 2FA.
