Use rules and smart mailboxes to organize incoming messages

-

FIND THAT YOU rarely delete incoming mail and almost never file it in a folder? It’s a common issue. The result is thousands of messages sitting in your inbox. Perhaps many of them are even unread. While modern Macs and fast broadband mean that huge inboxes aren’t the problem they once were, it’s still good practice to organize incoming mail. Apple makes it easy with smart mailboxes, and rules, which perform actions on messages. Spend some time setting these up and your inbox will be much less cluttered.

Mail also has an unsubscribe feature that seeks to identify newsletter emails and offer you the option to unsubscribe at the press of a button. We’ve found it to be a bit hit and miss, but it’s useful on the occasions it successfully identifies a newsletter you don’t read.

The final tool for managing incoming mail is the Junk filter. As with any email client, the more messages you mark as junk, the more Mail will learn how to identify spam in your inbox.

?? ?? Smart mailboxes allow you to gather messages that meet specific criteria, such as the sender’s name, into one mailbox.
