Apple also introduced lossless encoding. This encodes tracks using ALAC (Apple Lossless Audio Coding) instead of AAC. However, Apple says Bluetooth doesn’t support ALAC. So you’ll need a Lightning to audio jack cable for iPhone, or USB–C to audio jack cable for iPad. You can listen to Apple Lossless tracks on your Mac using a pair of wired headphones or powered speakers, although for the highest audio resolution you might want to invest in a DAC.

To listen to ALAC using Bluetooth speakers connected to a Mac, you’ll need a USB DAC (digital to audio converter) You can then connect headphones or speakers to the DAC.
