Pioneer DJ has a long history in the DJ and pro audio markets and its DM–50D powered monitors reflect that with their slick design. Powering from the mains, they have a 3.5mm input as well as stereo RCA and dual 1/4 inch TRS jack inputs for connecting a mixer or other pro audio hardware device. Inside the powered cabinet is a 25W class D amp and the system uses 5 inch woofers and 0.75 inch tweeters as well as a front bass port for greater low end extension. There’s also a switch to toggle between DJ and Production modes, whereupon the internal DSP changes the playback character to suit.

Reproduction is excellent, with DJ mode seeming to add vitality and punch, whereas Production mode was more balanced and rich. In either mode, you feel the benefit of the relatively larger cabinets with their direct and consistent sound. There’s no USB or Bluetooth, since these are in many ways more like studio speakers.
