AUDIOENGINE A2+

Compact and well–built, yet punch way above their weight

-

WHILE THE Q ACOUSTICS have the best connectivity and arguably the best sound, they are significantly more expensive than anything else on test and also a little large for desktop speakers. The Pioneer DJ’s also sound excellent but lack anything by way of computer integration. Audioengine’s A2+ models are compact and well–built yet punch way above their weight. Sitting comfortably on even a smaller desk, they support USB streaming as well as aptX Bluetooth, mini jack, and also RCA in from other devices. There’s no headphone port but overall the balance of ins and outs is good, and sonic performance excellent with a range of sources.

The Logitech and Klipsch systems are good for gamers though less focused with general movie and music playback. The Pebbles are very affordable with great connectivity — USB–C, aux in and Bluetooth — though sonically can’t compete with the larger models on test. For a balance of price, connectivity and performance, the A2+ system hits the sweet spot.
