HOW TO Use the Notes app
1 Create a note
Launch Notes and click the new note icon (paper with a pen). Type a heading, which will also be the title. Press Return and start typing your note. Use the “Aa” button to style it or the Format menu for more options.
4 Add a table to a note
Click the grid in the toolbar. A table appears. To add rows, click the three dots to the left, then hover over the orange bar, click the down arrow and Add Row Above or Add Row Below.
7 View note attachments
You can browse images, scans, documents and websites in your notes. Click the View menu > Show Attachments Browser (Cmd+3). Click on a tab to see attachments.
2 Add an image
Click the picture button and choose Photos. Wait for the photo browser to load, locate the one you want and drag it onto your note. To add a photo from elsewhere on your Mac, drag it from the Finder onto the note.
5 Lock a note
If you want to secure a note with a password, select the note, then click the padlock in the toolbar and choose Lock Note. Type in a password, verify it and type a hint. Click the padlock again and choose Close all Locked Notes.
8 Create a new folder
Hover over iCloud or On My Mac and click the three dots icon on the right. Choose New Folder. When the Folder appears, type a name for it and press Return. You can create nested folders the same way.
3 Scan using your iPhone
Click the picture button and choose Scan Documents under the name of your iPhone. The viewfinder will open. Hold it over the document and wait for the shutter sound. Press Save.
6 On My Mac
Click the Notes menu and choose Preferences. Check the box next to “Enable the On My Mac account”. If you want to set On My Mac as the default for new notes, select that from the Default Account menu.
9 Pin a note
Notes are automatically ordered with the most recent at the top in any folder. To pin another note to the top of the list, Ctrl–click it and choose Pin Note. You can also duplicate and delete notes from the same menu.
