HOW TO Create a slick home movie
Add videos
Create a standard Movie project, and you’re asked to add videos from Photos or iCloud. You can either select a few here to get started, or tap Create Movie and add them later, along with other media files, in the editor.
Add custom titles
To add a title or caption, tap a clip, select Titles, then choose a style. Tap the title in the preview pane to edit the text, then drag it to where you want it. Tap “Aa” to change the font, and the round icon to alter the color.
Add backgrounds
From the media menu, tap Backgrounds, and select one from the range of Solids, Gradients, and Patterns. Tapping “+” adds it to the timeline. You can add a caption or an overlay video to it.
Arrange and trim
Any videos added will appear in the editor timeline. To rearrange them, simply hold and drag a clip to a new position. To trim a clip, tap it and drag the start and end handles. You can also split a clip: tap Actions, then Split.
Funky filters
You can select a universal filter in the project settings, or add filters manually to clips. Tap a clip and select Filters, then choose a style. Drag the horizontal slider between 0 and 100 to adjust the strength of the filter effect.
Overlay video
When adding a video, tap “…” to add it as a Cutaway, Picture in Picture, Split Screen, or Green/Blue Screen. It will overlay the existing clip at the playhead. Change its type by tapping the overlay clip and selecting Overlays.
Fine–tune transitions
By default, Dissolve transitions are used between clips. To change one, tap it, and select another option. Tap the up/down arrows; you can move the transition and adjust start/end points.
Fast or slow
You can speed up a boring bit, slow down an interesting part, or even freeze it. Tap the clip, then Speed, and drag the slider to adjust the playback. Drag the handles of the effect in the timeline to select where it is used.
Music and effects
Select the Audio tab in the media menu to add one of the available soundtracks, or songs from your Music app library. Tap Sound Effects to choose from a range of fun effects to add to your home video.
