How to Share sound and video from your Mac

-

Pick your music

AirPlay is built into the Music app, so all you need to do is open the app as normal, pick the track you’d like to listen to and then click on the AirPlay icon. That’s the one with circles radiating from a triangle.

Pick your speaker

You should now see a list of all the available AirPlay devices on your network. All you need to do is to click on the device you’d like to play your music on and, after a very short delay, it’ll start playing.

Cast your clips

Sharing video from your Mac is easy too. Simply open the video you want to stream and look for the AirPlay icon; here we’re using YouTube in Safari and we’ve made the clip full–screen. Once again you’ll see a list of devices.

Push the button

Here we’re doing the same thing, but this time we’re in Apple’s own TV app. The AirPlay app is in a different place — here it’s in the lower left corner rather than the lower right — but it does exactly the same thing.

Project your podcasts

You can also send your current podcast from Apple’s Podcasts app. As it’s a fork of the main Music app the interface is almost identical, so the AirPlay button is at the top right.

Stream anything

If you use the AirPlay button in Control Center > Sound, you can send the system audio to your speakers — so for example here, we’re seeing exactly how our Logic music project sounds on our HomePods.
