Move your media

Need to free up more space? Move music and movies to an external disk

-

Analysis of your Mac’s storage can reveal that a big chunk of space has been taken up by media files, such as music, movies, or TV shows. If so, you have a choice: delete them or move them. You can do the former safely if the files are downloaded from Apple Music, the iTunes Store, or the TV app, because you can re–download them another time. However, if they are files you’ve ripped from a CD or created yourself, it’s a different matter. The best thing to do is to move your library to another drive. We’ll show you how to do that for Apple Music and Photos — the following pages will demonstrate how to move your media library, and how to get rid of duplicate files.
