HOW TO Delete duplicate songs

-

Identify duplicates

Select Songs in the sidebar. Click File > Library > Show Duplicate Items. You’ll see a list of tracks that Music thinks are duplicates. However, this could include different versions, such as a live and a studio version of a track.

A better way

Hold down Option and choose File > Library > Show Exact Duplicate Items. Only tracks that really are duplicates should be displayed. You shouldn’t see different versions of the song, only identical tracks.

Which version to delete

You may want to keep the version that you’ve played the most, the one you’ve “liked” or the highest bit rate version. To identify those, click View > Show View Options. Check the box next to the criteria you want to use.

Delete duplicates

Now you can see the information you need, Cmd–click on each of the tracks you want to delete from your Library. Once you’ve selected the songs you want to remove, tap the Delete key, then press Return to confirm.

Organize playlists

If you have lots of playlists, you can put them in folders. Click the File menu, choose New, then Playlist Folder. Type a name for the folder and press Return. In the sidebar, drag playlists into the folder to organize them.

Sort tracks and playlists

In any playlist or album, click on the View menu and choose Sort By. Choose a criteria to use for sorting, and Ascending or Descending. Use this method to change the order of items in a folder you’ve created.
