Apple silicon vs Intel vs AMD

-

>>> The arrival of Apple silicon sent shockwaves through the industry, and the more powerful M1 Pro and M1 Max have only piled on the pressure.

However, both AMD and Intel have released new laptop CPUs. AMD’s Ryzen 6000 mobile processors will feature AMD’s powerful RDNA2 graphics tech and up to eight Zen3+ cores. AMD’s Zen3 architecture has been winning a lot of plaudits (helping it eat away at Intel’s market lead in the desktop space), and with enhanced power– management features, they could find an ideal balance between performance and battery life.

Intel also announced its new Alder Lake processors. Like the M1 chips, these are hybrid architecture processors — featuring up to 14 cores, and a max six performance cores and eight efficiency cores.

So, while the M1 chips have made a huge impact, both AMD and Intel have responded, and we’re seeing early benchmarks that put them level with the M1 Max. Another thing that’s going for them is that both AMD and Intel have claimed their new chips will be going into upcoming laptops from makers such as Dell and HP, offering a selection that Apple just can’t compete with. That’s never troubled Apple in the past, however.
