Learn how to capture perfect portraits and scenic landscapes
People and pets are common subjects for a photograph, or you may prefer shooting urban cityscapes or rural landscapes. Whatever your subject preferences, you’ll find that the iPhone packs all the tools and shooting modes you need to capture a wide variety of subjects, from attractive portraits to majestic vistas. Here are some shooting tips and techniques that will help you capture the perfect picture.
1 SHOOT IN PRORAW
Professional DSLR photographers tend to capture Raw format photos instead of JPEGs. This is because uncompressed Raw files contain more information about a scene’s colors and tones than compressed JPEGs do. You can then use an editing app such as Photos to restore more of a Raw file’s missing colors and details than you could with a JPEG. The downside of shooting in ProRAW is that the large files require more storage. A 48– megapixel (MP) ProRAW file captured on an iPhone 14 Pro Max weighs a whopping 75MB, though you can choose to capture a smaller ProRAW resolution of 12MP (25MB) in Settings. If you don’t own a Pro model iPhone you can still shoot in Raw format using third–party apps such as Lightroom, which has a built– in Raw capturing camera. 2 BEAUTIFUL BLURS
