HOW TO Track and adjust exercise routines on iPhone

-

Personal details

When you open Fitness for the first time (or select your profile image on the Summary page and tap Health Details), you can enter your date of birth, sex, height and weight to help calculate daily activity metrics.

Add a goal

You’ll be prompted to set a daily move goal (tap your profile and select Change Move Goal to alter it). Indicate how many calories you want to burn daily — whether you aim to be lightly, moderately or highly active.

Carry your iPhone

Simply pop your iPhone in your pocket when you’re carrying out any form of exercise. Your device will automatically record your activity. To track, tap Summary and you’ll see the day’s data in the Activity section.

Get a breakdown

Tap the Activity section for detailed data about your daily exercise routines. Select a day at the top of the screen or tap the calendar for a specific date. Check the times you were most active and burned most calories.

Make adjustments

Scroll down the current day’s data breakdown and you can tap Change Move Goal to amend your desired activity level. You can also check out recommended workout apps which also send data to the Fitness app.

Close those rings

Your aim each day is to close the rings to earn badges and awards. If you haven’t connected an Apple Watch (more on that later), you’ll concentrate on closing the red Move ring (the Watch adds Exercise and Stand rings).

Allow Trends

Fitness comes into its own when comparing your last 90 days of activity to the past 365. Tap Summary, find Trends, select Get Started and tap OK. The Trends section will then show if you’re performing better or worse.

View daily averages

Tap the Trends section for a breakdown of your movement, distance and walking/running pace. You’ll see daily averages and the number of times you closed a ring. This can motivate you to adjust your exercise routine.

Check your awards

Scroll to the bottom of the Summary page to see awards presented when achieving a fitness goal. For added motivation, you can share your data with others via the Sharing tab and compete to help complete your goals.
