HOW TO Sort your network
1 Mac won’t connect
If your Mac won’t connect to your Wi-Fi, turn Wi-Fi off then on again. Click the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar, and select Wi-Fi settings. Then use the switch in the top-right corner to turn it off, then on.
2 Restart your router
If this fails, it might be that your router has glitched or crashed. Unplug it, wait around 60 seconds, and then plug it in again. Give it time to reboot, then see if you can connect to Wi-Fi as normal.
3 Low data mode
If you’re using a Wi-Fi network for which you have to pay according to how much data you use, Low data mode helps cut the bill. In Wi-Fi settings, click the Details button and turn on Low data mode.
4 Network information
Hold the Option key down and click on the Wi–Fi icon again for a large information window that tells you a lot about the network on which you’ve connected, including the IP address, security and more.
5 Delete networks
Open System Preferences and click on Wi–Fi. Click Advanced at the foot of this window to see a list of the networks you’ve previously connected to. To delete one, click the “…” icon alongside it and choose Remove From List.
6 Test your speed
If you want to test the speeds you’re getting from your ISP, download the Speedtest by Ookla (www.speedtest.net). It’s free, and easy to use; just click Go and your upload and download speeds are measured and the results shown.
