Heed safety message, warn police
AS the festive season continues, police in the region are urging people to remain safe on the roads.
Manjimup Sen. Const. Darryl Levy said police would be “out and about” conducting random breath and drug tests.
“We want everyone to be safe over the New Year,” he said.
“Please remember to drive to the road conditions.”
Double demerits are in effect until 11.59pm on January 7.
Bridgetown officer-in-charge Sgt Phil Nation said there would be a lot of people unfamiliar with the region visiting the area.
“There will be people who don’t know about the roads, so travel carefully,” he said.
People are being asked to not drink and drive, wear seat belts, avoid driving tired and avoid distractions like mobile phones.
“Please also be aware how quickly cars can heat up when travelling with kids and pets,” Sgt Nation said.
Walpole police officer-in-charge Sgt David Wall said police in his area would also be proactive.
