Heed safety mes­sage, warn po­lice

AS the fes­tive sea­son con­tin­ues, po­lice in the re­gion are urg­ing peo­ple to re­main safe on the roads.

Man­jimup Sen. Const. Dar­ryl Levy said po­lice would be “out and about” con­duct­ing ran­dom breath and drug tests.

“We want ev­ery­one to be safe over the New Year,” he said.

“Please re­mem­ber to drive to the road con­di­tions.”

Dou­ble de­mer­its are in ef­fect un­til 11.59pm on Jan­uary 7.

Bridgetown of­fi­cer-in-charge Sgt Phil Na­tion said there would be a lot of peo­ple un­fa­mil­iar with the re­gion vis­it­ing the area.

“There will be peo­ple who don’t know about the roads, so travel care­fully,” he said.

Peo­ple are be­ing asked to not drink and drive, wear seat belts, avoid driv­ing tired and avoid dis­trac­tions like mo­bile phones.

“Please also be aware how quickly cars can heat up when trav­el­ling with kids and pets,” Sgt Na­tion said.

Walpole po­lice of­fi­cer-in-charge Sgt David Wall said po­lice in his area would also be proac­tive.
