Com­peti­tors flock to cam­p­draft

MORE than 120 com­peti­tors took part in the South­ern Forests Cam­p­draft Club’s in­au­gu­ral draft at the week­end.

The two-day event was held at the War­ren Eques­trian Cen­tre and in­cluded the cat­e­gories of novice, maiden, en­cour­age­ment, re­stricted open, open horse, ju­nior and ju­ve­nile drafts.

Cam­p­draft is a form of horse rid­ing that in­volves work­ing cat­tle in a pen to show the rider has it un­der con­trol, then work the cat­tle into a big­ger area where they have to com­plete a short course around some pegs for a to­tal out of 100 points.

Com­peti­tors from the event came from as far as Al­bany and Carnar­von.

Win­ners in­cluded Bak­ers Hill’s Heath Ste­wart in the open sec­tion, Dar­danup’s Ruve Tyler in the maiden sec­tion, Fitzroy Cross­ing’s Keith An­der­son in the novice sec­tion, Dar­danup’s Freya Kerr in the ju­ve­nile sec­tion and Nar­ro­gin’s Kye Keilar in the ju­nior sec­tion.
