De­mand for straw­ber­ries still high

The straw­berry con­tam­i­na­tion crisis across Aus­tralia has done lit­tle to dampen de­mand for straw­ber­ries in Man­jimup, with both ma­jor su­per­mar­kets in town not­ing it has been “busi­ness as usual” re­gard­ing the sale of the fruit.

Straw­berry grow­ers have seen their or­ders plum­met af­ter sab­o­tage cases across Aus­tralia and at least 10 cases in WA of peo­ple dis­cov­er­ing nee­dles in­side their fruit, with many WA grow­ers open­ing their farms last week­end to try to clear the glut of berries.

How­ever, in Man­jimup, spokes­peo­ple from Coles and Wool­worths said the crisis did not ap­pear to have af­fected sales and that straw­ber­ries had con­tinue to sell as usual.
