The Sandra Donovan Sound Shell has won an award at the Australian Steel Institute Awards this year.

Slavin Architects won the steel excellence in steel clad structures at the awards.

“What is important to us is that people form emotional attachments to our buildings,” Slavin Architects director Murray Slavin said.

“They enjoy using them whether they are in or around them.

“It’s the recognition of social and emotional connection.

“Something that may be easily overlooked today where the focus is more on international fashion and trends, rather than the local context.”

Mr Slavin also thanked all those involved in bringing their vision of the sound shell to life.

“On behalf of the Shire of Manjimup, I wish to congratulate Slavin Architects and the project team on your success in being named the winner for Steel Excellence in Steel Clad Structures for the Sandra Donovan Sound Shell at the recent 2018 Australian Steel Institute Awards,” Manjimup shire president Paul Omodei said.
