Updated Cinderella panto ready to roll

Bridgetown Repertory Theatre’s pantomime twist on the classic tale of Cinderella will open on Friday, after months of auditions and rehearsals.

This version of Cinderella is from playwright Norman Robbins, who has given the tale a modern makeover.

Director Vicki Tillman said she held auditions in early September and had been working hard with the cast ever since to get the show up and running.

“We have 10 actors, five supporting actors and eight dancers.

“The dancers are all children but the majority of the cast are adults,” she said.

Mrs Tillman said she wanted to thank the five backstage members and three lighting crew, who will work behind the scenes to keep the play running smoothly.

“My daughter Sarah is also working as a choreographer for the dancers and I’ve really loved working with her in this play,” she said.

The play will run from November 30 to December 2 and will then run again the following weekend, December 7 to 9.

Mrs Tillman said her favourite part of directing a play was finding the right people for the roles and then bringing the actors together.

“It is nice to go from that first reading to the dress rehearsal and see the way people have developed their character,” she said.

She said she hoped to direct an Australian drama from the 80s or 90s after finishing this performance, but was not sure when she would start this next project.

Tickets for Cinderella can be bought on the night from the doors at Bridgetown Repertory Theatre.

Dawn Taylor plays Cinderella and Lillie Hinchy as the Prince in a scene from Cinderella at the Bridgetown Repertory Theatre.
