A severe freak storm created a path of destruction when it hit the region at the weekend.
The storm struck about 11am on Saturday, causing flash flooding near Northcliffe, plus damaging homes and businesses and destroying fruit crops throughout the rest of the district.
A Manjimup couple in their 50s have won $371,141 worth of early Christmas luck, coming forward to claim the regional Lotto hotspot’s second division one win for the year.
The claim ends what has been the talk of the town since Sunday, with many locals assuming the winner must have been an out-of-towner visiting Manjimup for last weekend’s Cherry Harmony Festival.
Representatives from two WA peak timber bodies have expressed their surprise and disappointment in the State Government’s planned restructure of the ailing timber industry, which could see mills closed and hundreds of jobs lost.
The move was reported in The West Australian on Saturday and Forestry Minister Terry Redman was holding crisis talks with the industry, which says it could not continue under its current arrangements.
