Teacher, stu­dent cho­sen for An­zac tour

A teacher and stu­dent from Man­jimup Se­nior High School have been cho­sen to at­tend the 2019 Pre­mier’s An­zac Tour.

Head of HASS Aly­cia Ber­ming­ham and Year 10 stu­dent Matilda Miller will be part of a group to visit Viet­nam as part of the tour.

It will be the se­cond time Ms Ber­ming­ham will be part of the tour as one of the two su­per­vis­ing teach­ers.

Matilda is one of 10 stu­dents in the State at­tend­ing the tour.

“It didn’t be­lieve it,” Matilda said.

“I thought they’d made a mis­take and I was in shock.”

As part of her sub­mis­sion, Matilda wrote an es­say on a Bridgetown Viet­nam War vet­eran.

“I knew he went as a sol­dier but I had no idea what it was like when he came back,” she said.

“It showed me I wanted to learn more about this.

“I’m look­ing for­ward to learn- ing about the cul­ture and how the war im­pacted Viet­nam.”

Ms Ber­ming­ham said she looked for­ward to see­ing what the stu­dents would learn.

“Viet­nam his­tory is an in­ter­est area of mine,” she said.

“It’s a priv­i­lege to be cho­sen to at­tend the tour.”

Man­jimup Se­nior High School has had 12 stu­dents as fi­nal­ists for the tour in six years and a to­tal of nine stu­dents cho­sen to at­tend.
