Teacher, student chosen for Anzac tour
A teacher and student from Manjimup Senior High School have been chosen to attend the 2019 Premier’s Anzac Tour.
Head of HASS Alycia Bermingham and Year 10 student Matilda Miller will be part of a group to visit Vietnam as part of the tour.
It will be the second time Ms Bermingham will be part of the tour as one of the two supervising teachers.
Matilda is one of 10 students in the State attending the tour.
“It didn’t believe it,” Matilda said.
“I thought they’d made a mistake and I was in shock.”
As part of her submission, Matilda wrote an essay on a Bridgetown Vietnam War veteran.
“I knew he went as a soldier but I had no idea what it was like when he came back,” she said.
“It showed me I wanted to learn more about this.
“I’m looking forward to learn- ing about the culture and how the war impacted Vietnam.”
Ms Bermingham said she looked forward to seeing what the students would learn.
“Vietnam history is an interest area of mine,” she said.
“It’s a privilege to be chosen to attend the tour.”
Manjimup Senior High School has had 12 students as finalists for the tour in six years and a total of nine students chosen to attend.
